More Information...

Who is this institute for?
The Learning Alliance will spend the 2017-18 school year focused on our community's Moonshot Moment goal of 90% of third graders in Indian River County reading on grade level by 2018. So to that end, this week long professional development institute will primarily be for all those who serve those K-3 students, including elementary classroom teachers, special area teachers, ESE and ELL support, literacy coaches and administrators. We will particularly focus on our Moonshot Academy schools, which include Rosewood Magnet, Indian River Academy, Citrus Elementary, Treasure Coast Elementary, Beachland Elementary and Vero Beach Elementary.

I'm not sure if that will be me next year. Can I still attend?
Absolutely. This will be an incredibly valuable, educational, and inspirational experience for everyone involved, as we are focusing on best practices in enriched literacy instruction, including social emotional learning, foundational literacy skills and applied comprehension. This makes it relevant and accessible for ALL educators. For capacity reasons, we may need to give priority to K-5 educators in our Moonshot Academy schools.
What does the week cost?
The week costs approximately $2000 per participant. But as an educator in the School District of Indian River County, it's free to you! Thanks to The Learning Alliance and generous community partners, participation for up to 50 educators is covered by a scholarship. If you are planning to teach in Moonshot Academy in the fall of 2017, then you will receive a stipend, as this week will serve as your PD and planning time for the fall session.

What's the deal with the follow up support and stipend?
All participants in the Moonshot Summer Institute will have the opportunity to complete a personal PD to Practice Portfolio for a stipend during the 2017-18 school year, as part of helping The Learning Alliance to develop a Moonshot Enriched Literacy Certification Curriculum. This is where the learning comes alive!
